Air Purifier
The benefits to an air purifier are huge!
They capture airborne contaminants like viruses, germs and all the things that make college kids sick. They capture allergy-triggering particles from the air, like dust, pollen, dander, mold, and other harmful particles. They can also remove unwanted odors. Dorm rooms can have a buildup of unpleasant odors caused by lack of cleaning, dirty laundry, full garbage cans and microwaved meals.
Power Strips/Surge Protectors
There are never enough outlets in a dorm room (and they certainly aren’t where you need them). You will need at least two power strips (I sent a 6ft and a 10ft). Schools require they be surge protectors and most require that they be “UL or ETL Listed” (this implies a safety standard)
Laundry Backpack
A laundry backpack can be a life saver in the dorms. First of all, many dorms do not have elevators down to the laundry facilities. Second, often times laundry machines break forcing you to walk to another dorm or the laundry mat. This one is sturdy and stands up on his own which acts as a hamper as well. You can tuck it away under your bed so nobody sees it also.
Shower Caddy
Unless your child has a shower to themselves, they will need a shower caddy to get their items to the shower. You will definitely want one that drains easily and/or machine washable.

Desk Lamp
Most likely, your school will no be providing a desk lamp. They are great if you want to study without turning the lights on to the entire room (if your roommate is sleep[ing). Make sure to get ones that will also charge your phone
Mattress Topper
The dorm mattresses are just not comfortable on their own. A two to four inch mattress topper will provide more comfort and make it easier to sleep
